We had gone to Teruya’s Andagi to pick up andagi and sweet potato mochi after lunch. Our dog, Doc watched us enviously while we devoured the fresh, delicious Okinawan desserts. Because he is an important part of our Ohana, we decided to share the last andagi with him but took a photo of him with his andagi first. This is his photo.

ELIGIBILITY

Contest is open to HUOA members and the public. Prizes will be mailed to Hawaii/USA addresses only.

PRIZES

HUOA Okinawan Festival prize pack.


A total of 4 prizes will be awarded. 2 winners for each theme. Winners will be contacted by email and winning photos will be shared on our website, Uchinanchu Newsletter, and social media channels.

THEMES

Ohana means family

 

It is the people that make us who we are. Through this theme, we wish to capture the spirit of Ohana (family) in this year’s festival.

Take a photo of what you are eating or cooking during the virtual Okinawan Festival. Please add the restaurant name and the name or description of the dish. *Note: Feel free to re-plate your take-out.

CRITERIA

Photos will be judged on originality, composition, style, and the ability to embody the overall festival theme of “Sharing Uchinanchu Aloha”

SUBMISSION PROCESS

  1. Photos must be taken from 9/4/2021 to 9/5/2021. All entries must be received by HUOA by 9/7/2021 (10:00 PM Hawaii Standard Time)

  2. Maximum of 2 photos for each theme, submitted per participant.

JUDGING PROCESS

SUBMISSION DEADLINE: September 7, 2021, 11:59 pm HST

 

COMMITTEE SELECTION: September 8, 2021 - September 13, 2021

 

PUBLIC ONLINE VOTING: We will invite the public to vote online for their favorite photos.

Public voting will be conducted from September 14, 2021, 8:00 am HST through September 20, 2021, 11:59 pm HST. Visit www.huoa.org or www.okinawanfestival.com to access the voting site. The winners will be notified via email, as described below, and then, announced via HUOA’s social media, Purple Blast and website huoa.org.

 

ANNOUNCEMENT OF WINNERS: Week of September 20, 2021

NOTIFICATION OF WINNER

Winners will be notified by email after the final public voting has taken place, via the email address provided with entry. At the sole discretion of HUOA, disqualification, forfeiture and the selection of an alternate winner may result from any of the following:

  1. Winner's failure to respond to notification within three (3) business days after its transmission.

  2. The return of an email notification as undeliverable after three (3) attempts.

PUBLICITY CONSENT

By participating, all participants and winner(s) grant the Hawaii United Okinawa Association exclusive permission to use their names, photographs, voices, submitted photographs, and likenesses in connection with the promotion of this and other contests and waive any claims to royalty, right, or remuneration for such use. We will not share your personal contact information without your permission.

MISCELLANEOUS

  1. Participant must be the photographer and the sole owner of the photo. By entering the contest, you agree that the submission is your own work.

  2. Photo cannot infringe on any copyright, statutory, common law or other rights of any person, entity, firm or corporation.

  3. HUOA shall retain rights to all photos submitted and has the right to use and publish the photos for HUOA related purposes.

  4. For any winning photos in which a person/persons is/are recognizable, you must provide a “model release” from the subject or, in the case of a minor, the subject’s parent or guardian. A sample model release is available here.

The Hawaii United Okinawa Association reserves the right to change or discontinue the contest at any time and/or to extend the end date.
