The 38th Annual Okinawan Festival that was scheduled in early September has been cancelled due to health, safety, and financial concerns. 

 

The Hawaii United Okinawa Association (HUOA) consulted guidelines from the Center for Disease Control, State of Hawaii proclamations, and City & County of Honolulu emergency orders in making this decision. While painful, it is the right thing to do. The health and safety of festival attendees, our kupuna, performers, and volunteers during this COVID-19 pandemic is what's most important. 

 

Mahalo nui loa and ippee nifee deebiru for your support and understanding. We will persevere and put on an incredible festival in 2021!

In the meantime, HUOA has decided to move forward with planning to create a virtual celebration of Okinawan culture and other alternatives.
