This year the Hawaii United Okinawa Association (HUOA) is excited to partner with KHON2 to present Okinawa Week leading up to this year's 2022 Okinawan Festival.

Nakasone is a member of HUOA member club, Wahiawa Okinawa Kyo Yu Kai. In this episode of Sam Choy's in the Kichen he shares his recipes that integrate local Hawaiian dishes with Okinawan ingredients such as Okinawan sweet potato and smoked pork. Nakasone, prepares a dish of Okinawan sweet potato poke, smoked pork luau stew with mashed Okinawan sweet potato along with kanadabaa juushi with the leaves of the Okinawan sweet potato.

Lynn Miyahira is the former 2020 President of the HUOA. In this episode of Modern Wahine, Miyahira talks about following in the footsteps of her father, Wayne Miyahira, who was a president of the organization 30 years prior in 1990.

In this episode, Yamada talks about her endeavor from an engineer to Cherry Blossom Festival Queen along with how her Okinawan roots have continued to inspire and propel her to give back to her community.
