How do I purchase things at the Festival?


Please bring CASH to purchase Okinawan Festival scrip. Food, merchandise, and activities can be purchased/paid for using Okinawan Festival scrip. Scrip is worth 50¢ each and a full sheet contains 20 scrip, equal to $10.00. Scrip are available for pre-sale through HUOA member clubs. During the Festival, scrip are available for purchase at designated Scrip Booths in the Exhibit Hall and Third Floor. Again, please come prepared to pay for scrip with cash. Some booths may accept cash at their discretion, but change may not be available. Craft Gallery and the Beer Garden are the only places that will be equipped to accept credit card payments. Towards the end of the Festival, organizers may decide to stop selling scrip and booths will accept cash (no change given). Change is available at the Scrip Booths. (Note: Beer Garden will only accept cash or credit cards, no scrip).




Are there ATMs at the Festival?


Yes. There are multiple ATMs located within the Hawaii Convention Center. Two are in the first floor lobby (under the escalator and near Kam III entry doors) and one ATM is on the 3rd floor (near the restrooms at the top of the escalators).




Do I need an admission ticket to get into the Festival?


Yes, with a few exceptions. Go to the Admissions Booth in the First Floor Main Lobby to purchase a “paid” admission ticket and/or get an “unpaid” admission ticket (for children 12 and under and seniors 65 and over). Upon obtaining an admission ticket, go to the entry doors of the Exhibit Hall. Admission tickets are required for everyone entering the First Floor Exhibit Hall; there is no admission to enter the “Mura”/Third Floor Rooms. The following attendees do NOT need to obtain an admission ticket and can go straight to the entry doors of the Exhibit Hall:

  • Wear Festival Pin (free entry both days)
  • Volunteers and performers with wristbands
  • VIPs, Sponsors and Media with passes




How much is admission to the Okinawan Festival?


Admission is $2.00 per person, per day. Children 12 and under and seniors 65 and over are free, but still require an “unpaid” admission ticket. Admission tickets can be purchased or obtained at the Admissions Booth in the First Floor Main Lobby. Admission is $1.00 off with the Zippy’s coupon. Each coupon may be redeemed for $1.00 off a single admission. $1.00 off coupons are available at Zippy’s restaurants with any qualified purchase.

How do I purchase a Festival Pin?


Commemorative Okinawan Festival Pins are $10.00 each and available for pre-sale at the Hawaii Okinawa Center during normal business hours (Monday – Friday, 8:30AM – 5:00PM) until Friday, August 30, 2019. During the Festival, Pins are available for purchase at the Admissions Booth, while supplies last. Pins include free admission for both days, free shuttle rides (to/from McKinley High School) for both days, and coupons to various local businesses (click here for coupon details).




Can I re-enter the First Floor Exhibit Hall?


Yes. Get your hand stamped at any of the Exit Doors prior to exiting the First Floor Exhibit Hall. Show your stamped hand to re-enter the First Floor Exhibit Hall for that day. You can also get your hand stamped at the Information Booth.




Are pets allowed at the Festival?


No, pets are not allowed at the Hawaii Convention Center, per Hawaii Convention Center’s policy. Only certified service animals are allowed on premise.




Are there any prohibited items at the Festival?


Pets are not allowed, per Hawaii Convention Center policy. For safety reasons, lawn chairs and hard-shell coolers are not allowed at the Festival. Only certified service animals are allowed on premise. There will be ample rest areas including seating available in the First Floor Exhibit Hall and on the Third Floor concourse.




Will alcohol be available for purchase at the Festival?


Yes, alcohol is available for purchase to Festival attendees 21 and over. All alcohol must be consumed within the First Floor Exhibit Hall. The Beer Garden will be stationed in the First Floor Exhibit Hall, between the Country Store and Main Stage. The Beer Garden will be open on Saturday from 11am – 9:00 pm (with a short break from 5 – 5:30pm to set up closer to the Bon Dance on Saturday evening) and Sunday 11am – 3pm. Alcohol can only be purchased with cash or credit card (no Okinawan Festival scrip will be accepted for alcohol). The Hawaii Convention Center staff and/or HUOA organizers reserve the right to refuse service.
