Shingo Yamashiro from Gusuku Bingata in Okinawa returns to Hawaii. He will be hosting Bingata dyeing workshops at the Okinawa Festival. Bingata ( 紅型, meaning "colored form") is a treasured art of Okinawa which uses traditional stenciled resist dyeing technique. This hands-on mini workshop will teach you the Bingata dyeing technique on a coaster, which you can take home as a unique keepsake.

Each workshop will take approximately 50 minutes and is limited to 14 people per session.
Advanced online registration is required.
Participants will create Bingata designs on coasters, choosing from three different designs.

Founded 54 years ago, Gusuku Bingata Dyeing Studio in Urasoe City, Okinawa Prefecture, is dedicated to preserving the traditional Okinawan craft of Ryukyu Bingata. This dyeing technique has been passed down for over 500 years. Their concept, "adding color to your life with Bingata," reflects their commitment to keeping this tradition alive while infusing it with a contemporary touch.
